N2OFF invests $2.2B in 60MW battery storage for German solar

N2OFF, Inc. (NASDAQ: NITO) has announced a substantial investment to expand its solar energy capabilities in Germany by integrating a battery energy storage system (BESS) into its Melz solar project. This initiative will add between 40 and 60 megawatts of storage capacity to the existing 111 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar photovoltaic facility.

The Melz project recently received approval from the Melz Municipal Committee to proceed with its statutory plans, aiming for construction to begin in early 2026. This development is part of N2OFF’s strategy to strengthen its renewable energy portfolio across Europe, particularly in Germany and Italy.

The addition of the battery storage system is designed to improve the project’s ability to store excess solar energy generated during peak hours and to purchase electricity from the grid at lower prices. This stored energy can then be released during periods of high demand, optimizing energy delivery and increasing reliability. The battery storage market in Germany is projected to reach approximately $2.27 billion by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate of 30.7% from 2024 to 2030, according to GrandView Research.

David Palach, CEO of N2OFF, expressed enthusiasm for this investment, stating that it positions the company to capitalize on growing opportunities in the renewable energy sector. The collaboration with Solterra Renewable Energy Ltd., N2OFF’s partner in this venture, is expected to accelerate the development of additional renewable facilities across Europe, including two BESS projects in Sicily, Italy, with a combined capacity of 196 MWh, and a 35MW/140MWh BESS project in Poland.

N2OFF, which recently rebranded from Save Foods, Inc., focuses on sustainable energy solutions and innovative agri-tech applications. The company is committed to advancing its solar photovoltaic projects while ensuring that they meet the demands of energy storage and grid stability.

As the demand for energy storage continues to grow with the increase in renewable energy generation, N2OFF’s expansion into battery storage represents a significant step towards meeting those needs while also enhancing the efficiency and profitability of its projects.
