N2OFF increases investment in Melz solar project in Germany

N2OFF, a clean technology firm, plans to increase its investment in the Melz solar photovoltaic project in Germany, which has a capacity of 111 megawatts peak (MWp). The company aims to explore the integration of a battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity between 40 and 60 MWp.

This investment aligns with N2OFF’s strategy to expand its renewable energy portfolio. The Melz project received approval from the Melz Municipal Committee in December 2024, allowing it to proceed with its integration into the statutory plan. This advancement is essential for achieving ready-to-build status by early 2026.

The addition of battery storage will enable the facility to store excess solar energy produced during peak sunlight hours and to purchase electricity from the grid when prices decrease. This stored energy can be released during periods of high demand, thus improving the facility’s profitability and reliability.

David Palach, CEO of N2OFF, expressed enthusiasm about enhancing the Melz project with advanced battery storage technology. He stated, “By increasing our investment to explore a 40 to 60 MWp BESS, we are strengthening our position in our current project and continue to explore what we believe to be new lucrative opportunities.”

The Melz project is part of a broader partnership between N2OFF and Solterra Renewable Energy, a subsidiary of Solterra Energy. This collaboration focuses on the rapid development of high-potential renewable energy facilities across Europe. Among their initiatives, the partners are working on two BESS projects in Sicily, Italy, each with a capacity of 98 MWp and 392 megawatt hours (MWh).

Additionally, N2OFF and Solterra Energy have an exclusive agreement to jointly develop solar photovoltaic projects in Albania, as well as a 35 MW/140 MWh BESS project in Poland. This collective effort demonstrates N2OFF’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy footprint in Europe.
