LONGi Solar has announced the development of a 54.1 MW solar power plant in Chi\u0219ineu-Cri\u0219, Romania, which is on track for grid connection in the fourth quarter of this year. This facility will utilize LONGi\u2019s Hi-MO 9 back contact (BC) modules, achieving an impressive efficiency rate of 24.8%. It stands as the largest solar installation dedicated to retail infrastructure in Romania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project is being developed for NEPI Rockcastle and its subsidiary, Solpower Energy, with engineering support from Enevo Group. The solar park will feature 84,000 Hi-MO 9 modules, strategically placed to optimize energy production for NEPI Rockcastle\u2019s retail assets across Romania. Since last year, NEPI Rockcastle has fully owned the plant, which will play a vital role in advancing the decarbonization of its property portfolio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Construction of the solar facility began in January 2025 and is progressing as planned for a timely connection to the grid. The use of BC technology demonstrates scalability advantages, with Hi-MO 9 modules designed to minimize shading losses and maximize energy yield, outperforming traditional TOPCon products by 8%. The modules also offer a PID\/LID resistance, ensuring performance stability for 30 years\u2014critical for NEPI Rockcastle\u2019s long-term asset management strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mirel Jarnea, Country Manager for LONGi\u2019s Utility Scale Business Unit, emphasized the project\u2019s importance, stating, “This initiative illustrates how BC technology can support large-scale solar implementations that enhance energy reliability for infrastructure. The performance of Hi-MO 9 modules will help NEPI Rockcastle achieve energy stability.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The solar plant is projected to generate approximately 70,171 MWh of clean energy annually, sufficient to power around 29,300 homes in Romania. Furthermore, it is expected to prevent approximately 21,100 tons of CO\u2082 emissions each year, contributing to national climate objectives. In addition to environmental advantages, the project aims to create over 100 jobs locally, prioritizing regional contractors and providing a boost to the local economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Andrei Radu, Group Development Director at NEPI Rockcastle, outlined the company’s green energy strategy, stating, “Our photovoltaic project pipeline is designed to meet 6% of our electricity needs. We are investing EUR 110 million in new solar projects across 23 properties in Central and Eastern Europe, which will elevate our renewable energy usage to 84%. The partnership with LONGi for the Chi\u0219ineu-Cri\u0219 solar project is integral to our goals of enhancing our renewable energy footprint and achieving energy independence for our retail sites.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
