Polish electricity transmission operator Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE) has terminated its contract with Pile Elbud, the company responsible for constructing the 400 kV Choczewo \u2013 \u017barnowiec transmission line. This line is intended to facilitate the transfer of electricity generated by offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Construction of the line began in October 2024, with a projected completion date set for December 2025. The 19.5-kilometer connection is vital for integrating renewable energy sources into Poland’s power grid. However, issues surfaced earlier this year, particularly in May, when financial difficulties forced Pile Elbud workers to halt construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite ongoing discussions between PSE and Pile Elbud aimed at resolving the situation, negotiations failed to yield a resolution. PSE spokesperson Maciej Wapi\u0144ski confirmed that the decision to withdraw from the contract was based on significant concerns regarding the contractor’s ability to meet project timelines. PSE assessed that Pile Elbud was not in a position to complete the necessary tasks as stipulated in their agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As of July 31, 2025, PSE officially rescinded contracts related to both the Choczewo \u2013 \u017barnowiec line and the modernization of the \u017barnowiec substation. The operator is currently seeking new contractors to ensure the timely completion of these essential energy projects. This development highlights ongoing challenges in the construction of renewable energy infrastructure in Poland, particularly in the context of offshore wind energy development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
