Polenergia plans energy storage projects by 2025-2026

Polenergia, a prominent Polish energy group led by Dominika Kulczyk, is set to embark on new energy storage projects aimed for launch between late 2025 and early 2026. The company currently has a robust portfolio of energy storage initiatives that are nearing readiness for implementation.

During the recent financial results presentation, Polenergia highlighted its keen interest in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This technology has gained traction within both the Polish and global renewable energy sectors. The increasing volume of energy generated from renewable sources has impacted energy prices and has led to regulatory management of energy redistribution, making energy storage solutions increasingly essential.

Polenergia plans to meticulously assess its existing renewable energy project portfolio, particularly focusing on solar investments to identify those that can yield the highest returns. The company recognizes the industry-wide necessity for more BESS installations to bolster the stability of Poland’s energy network.

Currently, Polenergia’s development pipeline includes over 500 megawatts (MW) of BESS projects, featuring both two-hour and four-hour energy storage options. These storage systems are largely intended to complement the group’s existing assets. A representative from Polenergia stated, ‘If everything proceeds according to our plans, we anticipate that our first projects will reach the implementation phase by late 2025 or early 2026. Beyond commercial funding avenues, we are also exploring opportunities for public funding.’

In terms of current projects, Polenergia’s primary focus remains on onshore wind farms until the offshore wind projects Baltic 2 and Baltic 3, which the company is developing in partnership with Norway’s Equinor, become operational. The onshore wind turbines significantly contributed to the group’s performance in the second quarter of 2025 due to exceptional productivity during that period.

Interestingly, Polenergia appears unfazed by the presidential veto concerning amendments to Poland’s wind energy law. According to company management, all ongoing onshore wind projects adhere to existing regulations.
