Nextracker to Equip Major 550 MW Solar Project in Greece

Nextracker, a leader in solar technology, has been selected to supply its NX Horizon™ solar trackers for the Oricheio PPC Ptolemaida solar park, a 550 MW project located in Western Macedonia, Greece. This solar installation, developed by PPC Renewables, a subsidiary of the Public Power Corporation (PPC), represents the largest solar project in Greece and one of the largest in Europe. The site, previously a coal mine, is being transformed to generate clean energy, illustrating a key shift in energy production in the region.

Once operational, the Oricheio PPC Ptolemaida project is projected to supply approximately 1.8% of Greece’s annual electricity needs. This initiative aligns with Greece’s revised National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP), which targets an increase in renewable energy contributions to 82% of total electricity generation by 2030, up from the prior goal of 66% established in 2019.

Howard Wenger, president of Nextracker, emphasized the importance of this project in promoting energy independence in Europe and mitigating potential capacity shortages. He expressed pride in partnering with PPC Renewables and Terna SA, the engineering procurement and construction (EPC) company responsible for the project, highlighting their commitment to high standards in large-scale solar projects.

The Oricheio PPC Ptolemaida project is nearing completion and is expected to significantly contribute to the energy grid while stimulating economic growth in the surrounding area. Nextracker has established itself as the leader in the European solar tracker market and has shipped over 130 GW of solar trackers globally, expanding its operations and partnerships within Europe to enhance its supply chain capabilities.

Nextracker’s advanced technology allows solar panels to track the sun’s movement, optimizing energy capture throughout the day. This project not only represents a step towards a more sustainable energy future for Greece but also reinforces Nextracker’s position in the solar energy industry, enabling the company to continue delivering innovative solutions for utility-scale and distributed generation projects worldwide.
