SMA Achieves Certification for Solar Energy Security Standards

SMA has achieved compliance with the European standard ETSI EN 303 645, which sets critical security requirements for Internet of Things (IoT) devices. This certification applies to SMA’s products for generating, storing, and utilizing solar energy in both residential and commercial applications.

The certification strengthens defenses against cyberattacks and protects user privacy, underscoring SMA’s dedication to improving data protection and cybersecurity for homeowners and businesses. SMA’s Information Security Manager, Marek Seeger, emphasized that anyone investing in a photovoltaic (PV) system should prioritize long-term IT security.

Seeger stated, “It’s worth taking a closer look at the security features, as modern protection mechanisms offer both safety and peace of mind in everyday use.” With this certification, SMA aims to actively shield customers from cyber threats, providing a reliable and secure environment for connected energy systems.

SMA has also addressed the new requirements of the Radio Equipment Directive (EN 18031), which will be enforced starting August 1, 2025. This proactive approach further illustrates SMA’s commitment to maintaining high standards in energy system security and data protection, ensuring users can confidently utilize connected solar energy solutions.
