N2OFF boosts investment for Melz solar project battery storage

N2OFF, Inc. (NASDAQ: NITO) plans to increase its investment in the Melz solar photovoltaic project located in Germany. The company aims to explore the integration of a battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 40 to 60 megawatts (MW). This project currently has a capacity of 111 megawatts peak (MWp) and is essential for N2OFF’s growth in the renewable energy sector.

The Melz project, which is part of a joint venture with Solterra Renewable Energy Ltd., received approval from the Melz Municipal Committee on December 31, 2024. This approval allows the project to be included in the municipality’s statutory plan, bringing it closer to construction readiness by early 2026. The addition of a BESS will enable the facility to store excess solar energy produced during peak sunlight hours and to discharge that energy during periods of high demand, thereby enhancing grid stability and reliability.

According to GrandView Research, the battery energy storage systems market in Germany is projected to reach $2.27 billion by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate of 30.7% from 2024 to 2030. This trend underscores the growing importance of battery storage in the renewable energy landscape.

David Palach, CEO of N2OFF, stated, “We are excited to take this step toward enhancing the Melz solar project with advanced battery storage technology. By increasing our investment to explore a 40–60 MWp BESS, we are strengthening our position in our current project and continue to explore lucrative opportunities.”

The partnership with Solterra Renewable Energy Ltd. includes the development of two additional battery storage systems in Sicily, Italy, each with a capacity of 98 MWp and 392 megawatt-hours (MWh), as well as a co-development agreement for solar projects in Albania and a 35 MW/140 MWh BESS project in Poland. This collaborative approach aims to accelerate the establishment of high-potential renewable energy facilities throughout Europe.

N2OFF, formerly Save Foods, Inc., is committed to providing innovative solutions in solar energy and agri-tech. Through its subsidiaries, N2OFF focuses on sustainable energy solutions and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, along with improving food safety in agricultural practices. With its current solar project in Melz and potential future projects, N2OFF aims to contribute significantly to the renewable energy market.

The company is actively seeking to capitalize on the growing demand for renewable energy sources, particularly as battery storage technology becomes increasingly vital for maximizing efficiency and reliability in energy systems. As N2OFF moves forward with its plans, the integration of a battery energy storage system at the Melz site represents a strategic investment in the future of renewable energy.
