Trinasolar acquires 49.9MW Chatterley energy storage project

Trinasolar’s International System Business Unit (ISBU) has acquired the 49.9MW/99.8MWh Chatterley energy storage project from Abbey Group, a UK-based developer. This project, situated in the Midlands, aims to bolster the UK electricity grid’s flexibility by offering two hours of battery storage capacity.

Construction of the Chatterley project is set to begin this month. It is expected to engage in key balancing and ancillary services markets, while also providing essential capacity support to the regional grid. This acquisition reflects Trinasolar ISBU’s expanding energy storage portfolio in the UK and its commitment to facilitating the shift to a low-carbon energy system.

Sasha Georgievski, Development Director for the UK, stated that the ISBU UK team is focused on developing a robust platform for project delivery. The team aims to build a pipeline of high-quality solar and storage projects, which will benefit both partners and the electricity grid, supporting the UK’s renewable energy goals.

Leonardo Lotti, Head of Trinasolar ISBU for Europe, expressed enthusiasm about adding the Chatterley project to their portfolio. He highlighted this acquisition as a reinforcement of Trinasolar’s long-term strategy in the UK energy storage market and underscored the important role of batteries in achieving a net-zero electricity grid.

Andy Brand, Operations Director at Abbey Group, noted the successful completion of the transaction with Trinasolar, emphasizing that the project’s sustainability aligns with Abbey Group’s values. He expressed confidence in Trinasolar’s capability to execute the project effectively.

This transaction solidifies Trinasolar’s position in the global utility-scale solar and storage sector and follows a series of strategic investments across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).
