YEO Technology invests €220 million in Romanian renewables

Defic Globe, a subsidiary of Turkish energy company YEO Technology, has acquired 15 renewable energy project companies in Romania, with a combined capacity of 219 megawatts (MW). This portfolio also includes battery energy storage systems (BESS) capable of storing 320 megawatt-hours (MWh). The total estimated investment for this initiative amounts to €220 million.

This acquisition was made in collaboration with Emsolt Investments, a renewable energy project developer based in the Netherlands, which also operates in Turkey, Romania, Italy, and Ukraine. This move expands YEO Technology’s footprint in Romania, following its market entry at the end of 2023.

YEO Technology’s initial investment in Romania included the Caracal Solar Power Plant, which has an installed capacity of 18 MW peak (MWp) and generates about 26 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually. Following this, Defic Globe is currently constructing two additional solar plants in Bobicești, Olt County, with a combined capacity of 21.3 MWp, expected to be operational by the second quarter of 2025, producing around 34,400 MWh each year.

In addition to its recent acquisitions, Defic Globe has partnered with Shanghai Electric Power Co., Ltd. to develop two new photovoltaic plants in Romania, which will add another 129 MWp to the country’s renewable capacity. These projects are distinct from the 15 companies recently acquired.

Defic Globe aims to support Romania’s renewable energy goals, aligning with both national and EU targets for clean energy and energy security. YEO Technology, headquartered in Turkey, focuses on engineering, automation, and energy infrastructure, while increasingly targeting international renewable energy markets. Through its operations in Romania, YEO Technology plans to further invest in solar power generation and energy storage solutions.
